Time Well Spent

I can't believe we finally did it!! I'm not going to lie, this whole program was very challenging for me. From learning how to do research again, to re-learning how to write papers, to learning to how to blog and most of all learning how to juggle working full time, being a wife and being a mother through it all. I'm so grateful to have experienced this journey with a group of people who share that same passion as I do. If I had to think to three deeply felt learnings from this program I would say that the knowledge I have gained regarding diversity and equity have influenced me greatly in how I look at the opportunities that I have had and that others have had around me. Secondly, creating a professional learning community has broadened my understanding of how early childhood programs and issues are handled all around the world. Thirdly, I have learned so much regarding intentional and unintentional consequences. This knowledge has helped me to look at ideas from many different angles and take into consideration how one idea/problem/project has the power to influence many different aspects of the lives of young children. A long term goal which I have is to become a college professor and teach aspiring early childhood teachers. I am hoping to explore opportunities to teach adults in my community currently with the hopes of one day returning to school for my Doctorate. Finally, thank you to everyone for your feedback, encouragement and thought provoking posts which have helped me to grow as a person and a professional. Best of luck to all of you as you continue to pursue your passion of working with young children and their families!!!

  1. Megan,

I can agree that this whole program has been very overwhelming and challenging. I can believe that we have just a few assignments left. The research that we have done throughout the whole program has provided me with a lot of information that I can use and carry out through my professional career. I have learned that we are in our way researchers we are doing some type of research every day when we are being asked questions and try to find the answers. Diversity is so important in early childhood learners lives. Supporting diversity in early childhood programs is a two-pronged process: helping children to feel good about themselves, their families, and their communities, and also exposing children to differences, things that are unfamiliar, and experiences beyond their immediate lives. I want to personally say thank you for being supportive and adding depth and additional information to my discussions and blog posts. I wish you nothing but the best as you continue to push through on your journey.

  2. Megan,
I can't believe this time has come already either! It is so amazing to think that just over a year and a half ago we started this journey and now it has already come to an end! I have had such a great time working with you and reading all of your thoughts and comments throughout the course of our time together. It has truly been a great experience to go through this journey. I wish you the best of luck and success in your future and hope you have the opportunity to continue changing young lives!

  3. Megan,

There were definitely some challenging times for sure. Many times I wanted to throw in the towel and say forget it, but I am glad we pushed through and stay motivated!! To look back at what I went through, a divorce, being a single mother, job changes due to budget cuts, emotional highs and lows. I am going to celebrate not only for me but for all of us. We made it and it is a great feeling. Congratulations and I do hope you continue to have success for your future plans!!
